Afterlife Review
Introduction
This is a book of questions to help you gain clarity for living your life—right here, right now. This is a book for the spirit, your deepest soul, no matter what your belief system. It is a book of common sense to set a foundation to support you through life’s ups and downs—a touchstone for when you feel lost or hopeless.
We will explore concepts that you will imagine in a way that works for you—and you alone. You can imagine them to be consistent with the societal belief system by which you live or you can create a whole new paradigm that resonates deep within you. You are the leader. The questions are here to guide and support you.
What do you think happens after you die? What if there is a life review? What if you are asked questions about how you lived your life? What do you want to say? How will you report out?
I have asked many people these questions over the years of my personal, spiritual, and professional exploration. I have asked family, friends, clients, and an occasional stranger with whom I entered into one of those wildly interesting and unexpected conversations. The answers have been enlightening. Even if you don’t believe in God or anything greater than this one life, this book poses questions to get you thinking about how and why you are making life choices.
I have worked on this book on and off—mostly off—for over a year. However, I have thought a lot about the concept of an afterlife review. I found myself asking the questions I created for the book and looking at the implications in my daily life. I looked in the way that I intended my readers to look at how they would live their lives differently, if they considered having to report out.
More often than not I realized that people used terms to indicate a belief in an afterlife review such as “meeting St. Peter at the Pearly Gates,” or “how will I explain that when I get to heaven,” or “I am not taking that with me when I go.” There are people who believe they know exactly what happens when they die, and people who don’t know for sure but think there is more to heaven and earth than what they can see, taste, hear, and touch.
In my career as an organizational consultant and coach, my driving vision has been to create clarity for the people with whom I work. Once people can see where they are and understand where they want to go, they can make pretty much anything happen. Sometimes, it just takes a slight shift in their perspective—how they look at themselves and life. As you read on, move a little to your right or left to view what is being presented here.
Personally, I believe there is a life review. The picture in my mind is more symbol than reality, more contextual than actual. What I hear clearly are the questions related to specific behaviors, feelings, perceptions, and blocks I have identified as archetypal to me. These have manifested in the same relationships repeating over and over and finding myself in the same set of circumstances again and again. If you want to know the lessons you are here to learn, look at your situations and relationships to identify the repeating patterns.
As you read on, I ask you to open your mind and heart and consider embracing these four foundational concepts:
1. There is an afterlife review.
2. You need to be very clear on what matters.
3. You are a vital, important player in the big picture.
4. It is a very, very big picture.
Enjoy exploring and may you find new insights and clarity to move forward in your life with even more joy and commitment!
